Our Values

Big Duck’s values are important to us as individuals and to our team as a whole. Our relationships thrive when we work with organizations, partners, and individuals that share these values.

Optimism. Our clients change the world, and we are proud to be a part of their work.

Hard work. We love working hard and learning new things. Curiosity about our clients, our industry, and the world at large drives all of our strategy, writing, and design work.

Good fun. Embracing our personal passions—passion for issues, passion for creativity, passion for new ideas and technologies, passion for a good laugh—gives us inspiration to grow. We’re sort of geeky that way.

Individuality. Each member of Big Duck, and each client or partner, brings a valuable point of view. The organizations we work with have their own missions and cultures, and we strive to position them uniquely among their peers.

Collaboration. Our process relies on combined expertise. A good idea is a good idea, whether it comes from our clients or from us. When we listen to and incorporate varied perspectives—and when we combine smart strategy with original creative—we get the best results.

Relationships. We make decisions and give advice based on what’s best for the organization we’re working with, not just the project we’re working on. We get to know our clients, and we want them to get to know us too. We like to think we’re pretty likable.

Directness. We’re not afraid to say it like it is—even if that means disagreeing or delivering difficult news. We encourage our clients and partners to share their opinions and experiences with us openly and honestly. Seriously: we can take it.

Balance. We strive to create a sustainable, realistic working environment for our staff and clients—not one based on the adrenaline rush of an impossible assignment or a killer deadline. Our goal is to get it done right, on schedule, and on budget. But only because we’re healthy people.

Transparency. How we work and how we get paid shouldn’t be a secret. Similarly, we ask clients and partners to be transparent with us about what makes their organization tick. We don’t participate in relationships that involve referral fees, kickbacks, or back-door deals.

Impact. We want to help. If we can’t, we’ll pass. If others can do it better, we’ll encourage organizations to work with them. There are a lot of talented folks out there, and we are only some of them.
