Madeleine Milan
Strategist
A Duck from across the pond
Why I work at Big Duck:
So I can use my powers of insight and strategic thinking for good, and work with some seriously smart people.
What I think is just ducky:
Communications tactics that neatly follow strategies that clearly relate to communications goals (geek!); family; cooking; growing tomatoes; lovely people
What really ruffles my feathers:
Scattershot communications, carrying anything that weighs more than a pound, people who can’t laugh at themselves
More about me:
I grew up just west of London, UK (that’s right, I’m British). After studying politics and philosophy at the University of Sheffield (in the real steel city), I spent a few years getting used to the real world and wondering what to do next until I joined a government agency's communications department and found out that helping the organizations that do good communicate better was my destiny. Several years ago I made the fateful decision to come to New York for an adventure and to get a master’s in public relations and corporate communication from NYU, after which I landed at Big Duck. Since being here I've brandraised for clients, including The Marfan Foundation and the National Council for International visitors; strategized websites for Citizens' Committee for Children of New York and AJC; planned campaigns for Gateway Maternal and Child Health Network and Island Conservation; and helped countless tens of people communicate better online through our Writing for the Web workshop. You should totally come to the next one. It's fun.
