A podcast is like a radio show that you can access on-demand. Podcasts are released as audio files (MP3s), and you can listen to them online or download and play them on your computer or MP3 player.
There are podcasts on just about any topic you can think of, and most are free and about 10-15 minutes in length. You can subscribe to your favorites through directories like the iTunes store or through an RSS feed, and new episodes will automatically download as they are released.
